AYF and Generate Ministries welcomes the recently released review of Special Religious Education (SRE) and are heartened ' by the ' overwhelming support. We are encouraged that the Independent Consultants, ARTD, have highlighted that SRE is working well and is an integral part of the holistic education offered by New South Wales public schools.
The statistics show that Special Religious Education is operating in 81 percent of secondary schools, which underlines our commitment to providing the highest quality educational outcomes.
We commend the Minister and the Department of Education for the review and the commitment which "recognises the diversity of Australian society and supports parental choice in educating children about their faith" (report page xiv).
Generate Ministries ' shall work with the Department and other organisations in the SRE space in responding to the recommendations.
The Department of Education"s own Wellbeing Framework recognises the importance of the spiritual wellbeing of children in developing a sense of meaning and purpose as well as connecting growing students to culture, religion and community.
