     Thalben-Ball  is the daughter of the Australian artist Evelyn Chapman (Australia’s first women’s unofficial war artist). She was born in London and studied at the Heatherley Art School, London and exhibited at the Royal Academy. She emigrated from the UK to Australia in 1961, after her mother’s death, and worked as an artist for Placer International on their cattle stations. She was a finalist in the Archibald in 1975 and her portrait of Kay Cottee is in the National Portrait Gallery.
